Driveway Gates Installation
Driveway Gate Installation - What Are Your Options?
If you have a driveway gate installation project in mind, you should know that there are only two ways to complete the project. It’s either you do it yourself or you have someone else do it. Both options have their own set of advantages. And disadvantages.
If you are going to do it DIY, you will definitely save on labor costs on top of making your brain healthier by learning something new. On the other hand, hiring professional help for driveway gate installation is convenient and you only need to sit back, relax and wait for your project to complete.
But no matter what option you take, the process of installing a gate on your driveway is the same. First, you measure the length of the gate and cut a string to the length of the gate. Next, you survey the area where the gate will be installed and decide on where the gate will be. Your mark the location using the string by pinning it to the ground.
You then dig two holes on the ground beside the edges of the string to accommodate the two pillars that will support the gate. Take the two pillars and bury them in the holes. Pour concrete over the holes to put the pillars in place. Wait for the concrete to settle and dry. Then you install the gate.
When it comes to the specifics of actually installing the gate, the best resource would be the manufacturer. That said, read the manual and follow the instructions there carefully. If you are having a hard time following, search for tutorial videos that are specific to your gate model.
We mentioned earlier something about surveying the ground. You need to do it to determine if there is any unevenness in the ground. You also need to do it to determine exactly where you are going to install your gate.
If you find that the ground is uneven, level it. Remember that a gate will be running parallel to the ground and any unevenness isn’t going to look pretty and will ruin your gate aesthetics-wise.
Exactly where do you place your gate? There no specific measurements, however, you should put a space between the main road and the gate. What you want to do is get your car off the road while waiting for your gate to open.
When it comes to buying a driveway gate, you can have a manual or automatic self-closing one. We are not going to tell you which type of gate to buy, however, we are going to tell you that automatic doors have smart features that will make your life easier. You don’t need to get out of your car or call someone to open the gate. But of course, there is the added work of installing sensors. This is especially true if you are buying basic models. In any case, make sure to take your time and take a look at different gates before buying.
